Tusker’s dry spell persists

Tusker’s blunt attack continues to take a heavy toll on their campaign to defend the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title.

The brewers on Sunday made a slow return to local competition, settling for a barren draw with Sofapaka after crashing out of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup.

In the match played at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi, which was Tusker’s sixth of the season, their attack led by Tanzanian import Ibrahim Joshua failed to convert from a series of chances that came their way. It was the fourth successive match in which the 13-time champions failed to score a goal.

Tusker last scored on November 3 when they disarmed Kenya Police 2-1 in a league match.

Four days later at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Annex in Nairobi, they lost 3-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in an FKF-PL  match.

Thereafter, Tusker drew 0-0 with Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien on November 28 in their first leg CAF Confederation Cup play off tie at Nyayo National Stadium.

One week later, coach Robert Matano’s side lost 1-0 to Sfaxien away in Tunisia in the return leg to exit the continental showpiece.

Even against Zamalek in the CAF Champions League, they did not score a goal and exited the competition on a 6-0 aggregate loss to the Egyptian giants.

In their only other league victory, the Brewers did not win convincingly, as they beat struggling Wazito 2-0. In their other two league matches, Tusker lost 1-0 to giants AFC Leopards and 2-1 to newcomers FC Talanta.

Also concerned about his blunt attack is Gor Mahia’s coach Mark Harrison after a barren draw against Bandari at Nyayo  on Sunday. Despite the draw though , they returned to the summit of the log on 18 points.

KCB continued scoring with their 2-0 romp over Ulinzi Stars at Utalii stretching their unbeaten run to eight successive matches.

Struggling Nzoia Sugar picked their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Sharks.      BY DAILY NATION
