Three burnt to death in city slum fire
Three people were Sunday night burnt to death in a fire incident in Nairobi’s Kinyago slums.
The three include a five-year-old child and a couple.
Police and witnesses said the victims were in their house when the fire broke out.
Several other structures were affected in the incident rendering tens homeless.
Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said they are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
He added fire engines managed to contain the spread of the inferno, which could have caused more damages.
“Many people were displaced in the fire and are camping in the area seeking help. Unfortunately, we lost a couple and child,” he said.
Police arrived and teamed up with locals to among others stop looting.
Nthumbi said about 10 people were slightly injured as they battled to contain the spread of the fire.
Most of such incidents are caused by illegal power connections in informal settlements.
Officials have been running a campaign against such illegal connections in the informal settlement areas in vain.
Last week on Wednesday a man was burnt to death in a similar incident in Lungalunga slums, Nairobi which also left many homeless. BY THE STAR
