[PHOTOS] Thousands brave chilly weather, showers to turn up for Raila's big day

 

Kenyans started trickling into Kasarani Stadium for the ODM leader Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja celebrations early Friday morning, with gates having been opened as early as 3 am.

The early morning showers did not hold back the crowd as they continue to flock in their thousands.

As you approached the Kasarani Roundabout, traffic was witnessed as vehicles made their entry to the stadium.

On motorcycles, on foot, in vehicles, the crowds were seen snaking their way into the vast stadium.

Some of the women were seen covered with orange scarfs while the men had caps printed with orange colours.

Traders took advantage of the Kasarani jamboree as they sold merchandise from vuvuzelas, whistles, ODM wrist bands and flags.

Masks printed with the ODM  leader were not left behind as the traders reminded the public that Covid-19 was still among the crowd.

The stadium was decorated with the Azimio la Umoja colours of blue, white and orange.

Some of the seats at the trenches were Orange in colour while others were blue.

The stadium is heavily decorated with orange, white and blue balloons.

Orange banners were also strategically placed around the stadium branded in black written "THE FIFTH" with another one with Raila's portrait with the words "Azimio la Umoja .Inawezekana".

From the crowds, some members of the public were dressed in orange which is the ODM party's theme colour.

Security at the stadium was tight, with those getting in being frisked by security officers.

The presence of Police officers from the General Service Unit to normal Kenya Police officers in blue uniforms was felt and seen from every corner of the stadium from the entrance to the ground itself.

Vehicles getting into the venue were also thoroughly searched.

Kasarani OCPD Peter Mwanzo Thursday had urged those attending the meeting to observe Covid-19 guidelines noting that the virus was still present.

Those in attendance will be treated to a variety of entertainment— including live performances by local artists, cultural songs and dances culminating into Raila's 'big announcement' where he is expected to announce his presidential candidature for the 2022 polls.     BY THE STAR
