Leopards end five-game skid with Posta Rangers win

After losing five straight league matches, AFC Leopards bounced back to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Posta Rangers in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League at Nyayo Stadium.

Left back Washington Munene scored the all-important goal in the 32nd minute from a free-kick awarded after Nigerian striker Fasanmi Ojo was fouled outside the box.

Leopards, who moved from from 16th place to 13th, came close to notching the second in the 53rd minutes but Ojo’s shot was saved by Rangers keeper Jairus Adira.

Coach Patrick Aussems made double substitutions bringing in Eugene Mukangula and Maxwell Otieno for Saad Musa and Brian Wanyama in the second half.

Aussems said he was not satisfied with their display but was happy with the win.

Efforts by Posta forwards led by Gerson Likono and Brian Marita were thwarted by a well marshalled Ingwe defence by Joachim Oluoch.

“We scored early and defended well, but I’m not satisfied with the performance especially on a good pitch like Nyayo. Bad results in our previous matches were caused by the mass exodus of 15 players and we recruited a few when the window was closing,” said the Belgian.

“The pressure has reduced and I hope they will enjoy the next game against Vihiga Bullets in Kakamega over the weekend," he said.   BY DAILY NATION
