Last month, veteran musician Roy Smith Mwatia, popularly known as Rufftone, also declared his interest in the position.

Rufftone has been in the music industry for more than 20 years.

The “Mungu Baba” hit-maker told the Nation that his mission is to mentor the younger generation “through quality and visionary leadership”.

The three will battle it out for a chance to take over from Mr Sakaja who will not defend his seat but will be going for the governor’s seat in next year’s elections.

Making the announcement, the flashy politician said it is time for a fresh air of leadership in the city, ending speculations on which seat he would be gunning for in the coming elections.

There had been reports that Mr Kamano would be contesting for Lang’ata parliamentary seat currently held by Nixon Korir.

The businessman, with vast interest in real estate and technology industries, said his vision is to reposition Nairobi as a business and tech hub tapping on his experience in the sector.

“It is important we put the city into the hands of those who have skills and understanding of what needs to be done to get us there through coming up with appropriate legislations. That person is me,” said Mr Kamano.

“My vision and a dream to change Nairobi and position it as a global leader that attracts investors from all around the globe,” he added.

In 2017, Mr Kamano contested for the Nairobi West Ward seat on Jubilee Party ticket, coming third in a duel won by ODM’s Maurice Gari. He has indicated that he will yet again seek election as the city’s senator on a Jubilee tickect.

Mr Kamano said he will be banking on the work he has done through his foundation, Kamano Foundation, which has seen him traverse every corner of the city during Covid-19 pandemic distributing food and sanitisers.

“I have had the chance to speak to the people and I understood their plight and what needs to be looked at to make the life of an ordinary Nairobi resident better,” he said.   BY DAILY NATION
