Stand firm CS Amina, Kenya is behind you
The Sports ministry disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over 10 days ago.
That may sound like stale news for some people, but the matter is not over yet. There is a case in court, therefore, we can’t comment further on that issue now.
That said, we must delve deeper into the ban, and the effects. We respect our courts, and we hope that the FKF team headed by Nick Mwendwa, which was kicked out of office, will abide by the law.
This past weekend, we were surprised to learn that some FKF National Super League matches were still on schedule, and walkovers were awarded against teams that did not show up. This could have been alarming if we did not have a sense of humour.
When the caretaker committee appointed by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed started its work, it stopped football leagues for two weeks to streamline the running of the sport. We respect that, and we abide by that.
As expected, the Fifa letter came and its contents are public. We respect the laws that govern our land, and ask that Fifa sees it our way.
So should some partisan sports journalists who have been preaching gloom and doom since the dismissal of Mwendwa’s team.
We have a moral duty as Kenyans to build our country, so such people should be treated as traitors.
If Fifa makes good its threat to ban Kenya, local teams will not participate in international matches organised by Fifa (Tusker and Gor Mahia will not play their scheduled CAF fixtures against CS Sfaxien and Otoho d’Oyo , respectively.)
Harambee Starlets also risk missing their 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda, Eritrea and Djibouti.
No Kenyan will be eligible to contest for any post in Fifa bodies internationally.
Kenya will not get grants from Fifa or any kind of technical and infrastructural support, and the list goes on.
We obviously will suffer as a country; players have already suffered a lot, and it could get worse.
But we must weather this storm without disregarding our laws.
CS Amina should stand firm on this. All of Kenya is behind you; and we will celebrate whichever way Fifa judges us!
This is a time to assert our national pride. Bring it on Fifa! BY DAILY NATION
