Murang’a man charged with sexually brutalising pregnant wife

A 30-year-old man in Murang’a was on Friday arraigned at Kigumo Law Court charged with committing violence against his pregnant wife.

He was charged that on November 16, 2021, while at his matrimonial home at Sabasaba Township, he raped, sodomised and physically assaulted her.

The suspect is also accused of following the victim to Maragua Level Four Hospital where she was rushed for medical care by good samaritans with intention to abduct her and prevent the matter from being reported to the police.

The woman recorded a statement with the police indicating she was a victim of marital brutality for the past six years they have lived together. They have two children and are currently expecting a third.

The suspect was arrested after hospital guards and medics, shocked by the injuries the woman had, called in officers from Maragua police station.

He was presented before Senior resident magistrate Shivai Agade where he was disqualified from taking plea due to a defect on the charge sheet.

“After looking at the wording to demonstrate the accusations leveled against the suspect, it is of critical importance that the prosecution amends what is to be read out for plea taking,” Ms Agade said.

She said the demonstration of violence said to have been meted on the victim point at “grievous bodily harm” as opposed to the “actual bodily harm” charge the police had pressed.

“I direct that the suspect should not take plea until the charge sheet is amended and he should be produced in court on November 23, 2021,” she said.

The suspect was remanded at Maragua Police Station with doctors saying his wife was in stable condition.   BY DAILY NATION
