Kananu DG nominee Paul Mutunga to be vetted today
Nairobi County deputy governor nominee Paul Mutunga Mutungi will be vetted today(Thursday).
Mr Mutungi, who was nominated for the position last week by Governor Ann Kananu, will appear before the 10-member Nairobi County Assembly Select Committee on Appointments starting 10am.
This is after his name was tabled in the assembly and subsequently committed to the appointments committee.
The committee is chaired by Speaker Benson Mutura who is deputised by Majority Leader Abdi Guyo.
"Notice is hereby given of approval hearing to be undertaken by the County Assembly's select committee on Appointment on November 25, 2021 at the county assembly plenary chamber starting 10am," reads in part a public notice by acting Clerk Adah Onyango.
Mr Mutungi is currently City Hall's chief of staff, a job he assumed in January this year after replacing Brian Mugo.
The deputy governor position has been vacant since Ms Kananu vacated the office after her swearing-in as the substantive governor of Nairobi on November 16, 2021.
Ms Kananu has urged the Assembly to expedite Mr Mutungi's vetting process.
After vetting, the committee will then table a report in chambers for the House to either adopt or reject.
If Mr Mutungi’s name sails through the House, he will become the third deputy governor since 2017, following in the footsteps of Polycarp Igathe and Ms Kananu. BY DAILY NATION
