Kisii University has suspended its second-year students and ordered them out of the Campus after a strike Tuesday over a fee hike.
The decision was reached by a Senate meeting late Tuesday.
The day long-running battles caused destruction to property across the campus forcing the police to intervene.
A council sitting said the students must leave the institution.
The students will now have to await a different communication, a statement from the university administration said.
“The Senate has resolved to suspend all the second-year students indefinitely and until a further communication is made,” read part of the statement signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof John Akama.
He however said learning by other students would continue normally.
” Any second-year student found within the campus shall bear the full blame for the consequences that may follow,” warned the VC.
Meanwhile, the university administration says it has also suspended the implementation of the controversial fee hike.
The decision said a system was a product of deliberations between the students and the Council.
“I want to inform all the students affected that the fees alignment had been put on hold until further notice pending talks with the Council,” said part of the statement signed by Akama. BY THE STAR
