Police in Kisumu are probing a fire incident that occurred at Central Bank of Kenya Kisumu.
The cause of the Thursday night inferno which broke out at around 11 pm was yet to be established.
Security officers at the adjacent CBK Police Post rushed to the scene and started putting out the fire using portable extinguishers before they were joined by fire fighters from Kisumu County Fire Station.
The extent of the damage, resulting from the fire at the highly protected facility was not immediately ascertained.
Kisumu county police commander Richard N’geno said only a switch box was affected in the inferno.
“The fire was from a hydraulic bollard switch box at the ramp-out gate,” Ng’eno said.
He said a team had been assembled to probe the matter to establish the cause of fire.
“Nothing else was damaged apart from the switch box. The cause of fire not established but investigation has commenced,” Ngeno said.
The incident comes barely three weeks after another fire incident razed offices of the planning department at Kisumu’s prosperity house.
A source privy to the Investigations told the Star that phones and other exhibits collected from the scene had been taken to analysts in Nairobi.
A team of fire investigators from the department of fire and disaster sector from Nairobi County also visited the scene on 28 September. BY THE STAR
