'Inawezekana!' Mudavadi says on picking running mate from Mt Kenya

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has said that it is likely that he will choose a running mate from the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mudavadi said Mt Kenya people are experienced politically given the number of times they have produced presidents for our country.

“Kuna umaarufu mwingi katika eneo hilo. Ni watu wanapenda biashara na wanaweza kuchangia sana katika uchumi na taifa letu. Kwa hivyo sikatai. Kuna uwezekano,” he said on Inooro FM, which translates to, “There’s a lot of experience in the region. They are people who love doing business and can contribute a lot to the economy and the nation. So, I’m not saying no, there’s a possibility.”

He added, “They have had three presidents who have led our country.”

Mudavadi went on to say that it is unlikely that Mt Kenya will have a presidential candidate in 2022 and what leaders from the region are currently doing is listening to proposals from other presidential candidates.

During the interview, the former vice president rubbished reports that the Mulembe people have no leader, stating that Kenya has no Kingdoms and the law does not allow people to be called tribal leaders.

He noted that everyone is born from a certain place and it is likely one’s leadership enjoys immense support from the region they come from.

“Mulembe people have shown patriotism since Kenya got independence. Every time we go for elections, we look at the candidate and that’s why Moi, Kibaki, Raila got votes from the region. I also got votes from them,” Mudavadi said.

“Let us not fault the people of Western Kenya for voting for a Kenyan of their choice.”

Mudavadi called on Kenyans to look at the agenda and policies fronted by all aspirants in the next general elections instead of electing people based on their popularity.

The ANC leader has set his eyes on the Mt Kenya region as he woos residents to support his presidential bid ahead of the 2022 polls.

Since June this year, Mudavadi has visited Nyeri county twice. He has also reached out to the people of Murang’a county.

He was also in Nakuru county barely two months ago and last week, he was in Githunguri, Kiambu county.

Mudavadi is set to visit Meru county next in his Mt Kenya region tours to sell his “Uchumi Bora na Pesa Mfukoni” agenda.     BY THE STAR
