Police in Kilgoris have arrested a couple following the death of their eight-year-old daughter.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Amos Maengwe and his wife, Esther Kaiseyi were involved in a domestic brawl when Maengwe tried to hit his wife with a wooden object which missed and landed on the daughter.
“The two Esther Kaiseyi, 21 and Amos Maengwe, 30, who were on each other’s throats in the 10 pm incident, immediately stopped their fight and together carried their daughter to the hospital for medical attention,” DCI said.
“Along the way, they were stopped by police officers on the beat who owing to the condition of the little girl who had a deep cut on her head, rushed them to nearby Kilgoris sub county hospital to help save the life of the minor. She was in critical condition.”
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors tried to attend to the girl whose condition had worsened, but she succumbed to the injuries.
Maengwe and his wife Kaiseyi are being held at the Kilgoris police station, as detectives conclude investigations.
They will be arraigned in court.
Elsewhere in Nairobi, a suspect who jumped from the third floor of Amani apartments in Embakasi to evade arrest is nursing self-inflicted injuries at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
Sgt Rose Mwanzia and Constable Geoffrey Koros had stormed Didmus Mong’are’s house to arrest him for obtaining money by false pretences when the incident occurred.
“In a bid to trick the officers, Mong’are emerged from his bedroom naked, prompting the officers to allow him time to dress up. After putting on a pair of denim pants and a checked shirt, Mong’are dashed to the kitchen and jumped from the balcony,” DCI said.
The officers attached to the Embakasi police station were the first responders at the scene where they administered first aid to the suspect before he was rushed to hospital for specialised treatment. BY DAILY NATION
