PS Jwan asks teachers with Early Childhood certificates to apply for colleges

Teachers with certificates in Primary Education or Early Childhood have been asked to apply for admission into Teacher Training Colleges.

In a circular on Tuesday, Early Learning PS Julius Jwan said the training program targets trained teachers who have Certificate ECDE and Primary Teacher Education to Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education.

The application is open up to August 13, 2021.

Jwan asked regional and Country Directors of Education across the country to sensitise qualified teachers to apply.

"Applicants must be registered by the Teachers Service Commission and must also have and should also possess valid certificates," he said.

Jwan said applicants will be expected to undertake specially designed courses and teaching practice for a specified period before qualifying for the Diploma.

Those with a Certificate in Primary Teacher Education will be awarded a Diploma Primary Teacher Education.

Those with ECDE Certificate will be awarded a Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education at the end of the training programme.

Application forms are available on the Ministry of Education website .

He said the school-based upgrading program to benefit teachers in service will be available once the school Calendar normalizes.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education ordered directors to report schools that are charging illegal fees with immediate effect.

This was after reports that some schools continue to charge fees outside the guidelines leading to dissatisfaction from the parents and guardians.

In a circular on Tuesday, Education PS Paul Kibet said all county and sub county directors of education should do so without failure.

“Any school that desires to charge amounts above the stipulated fees must make a formal request to the cabinet secretary and will only charge after written authorization has been granted,” he said.

“No child will be sent away for non-payment of such fees. Schools are ordered to display their fees structure prominently on their notice boards."     BY THE STAR
