[PHOTOS] Standoff at LSK offices as rival factions clash over access to premises

A standoff was witnessed on Tuesday morning at the Law Society of Kenya offices on Gitanga road after a faction led by President Nelson Havi and another by CEO Mercy Wambua clashed over access to the premises.

The faction led by Nelson Havi is said to have stormed the offices and changed the locks early Tuesday morning.

The gate was also locked with chains and the guards manning it dismissed.

But later on, another faction having led by CEO Mercy Wambua had the gate forcibly opened and accessed the compound but were however not able to get into the offices.

The ensuing war of words from the two sides saw a contingent of police officers camp at the office.

Havi said the presence of the officers was not something new at the premises and wondered why they were there and yet LSK was not a state agency.

"This is harassment. They do not want us to perform our duties as LSK. It is as simple as that," he said.

Wambua said the gate had earlier been broken into and the guards chased away.

"I found strangers who were pretending to man the gate and I went to report the incident at Muthangari Police Station on Monday night," she said.     BY THE STAR
