CS Juma hosts promoted senior female officers for mentorship program
Defence CS Monica Juma on Sunday hosted about 40 newly promoted female officers from the ranks of Lieutenant Colonels to that of Brigadier at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
During the colourful event under the CS mentorship program ‘Athena; Women in Security Mentorship Program’, the CS congratulated the officers saying their promotion was well deserved and urged them to deliver on their added responsibilities.
“These promotions were carefully considered, they were merit-based and are to drive a vision. They were not a guarantee or a right, but a responsibility that comes with huge expectations," she said.
"This is a clear indication of the trust and confidence of the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, President Uhuru Kenyatta who is delegating additional duties to you."
An image consultant, Nthenya Macharia, urged the lady officers to lead by example in all aspects including appearance, behaviour and communication.
She congratulated the officers and urged them to continue being exemplary in their different areas of specialisation and endeavour to be the best.
Her sentiments were echoed by business consultant Mary M’mkindia who encouraged the officers to continue breaking the glass ceiling adding that the sky is their limit.
“I’ll urge you as the Bible tells us, take positions, stand firm, move forward. Ensure to always promote yourself ethically on your achievements and also have some resilience. Many are looking up to you, hold their hands and mentor them too,” M’mkindia said.
Also in attendance were the Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla, Defence Principal Secretary, Ibrahim Mohamed, the Commandant, Kenya Military Academy (KMA) Major General Fatuma Ahmed, ACDF OPD&T, ACDF P&L, Deputy Commander Kenya Air Force and other senior officers.
