The Ministry of Labour through the National Employment Authority has opened applications for Kenyan nurses interested in working in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

This comes days after Kenya, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland signed a bilateral agreement for collaboration in the healthcare workforce, allowing Kenyan healthcare professionals to be recruited to work in the National Health Service (NHS) of the UK.

Interested applicants are required to register through a specialised portal at: https://neaims.go.ke/

To qualify for the programme; one must be a Kenyan citizen and must have a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

They must also be registered and licenced by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

They must also have a valid Police Clearance Certificate and not be in paid employment either in the public or private sector in Kenya.

The deadline for registration is 5pm, August 27, 2021.

Details of the recruitment and migration process can be accessed from the Ministry’s website at: https://labour.go.ke or that of the National Employment Authority (NEA) at: https://nea.go.ke/web/.

Nurses are the first batch of health care workers targeted for recruitment under the agreement.

In July, UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid and Labour CS Simon Chelugui, signed the agreement on Kenyan recruitment into the UK’s National Health Service.

This was part of a request by President Uhuru Kenyatta during his trip to London.

The President also witnessed the signing of the Kenya-UK Health Alliance, which will bring together UK and Kenyan institutions – universities, teaching hospitals – cooperating on health partnerships.

One of the flagship partnerships is on improving cancer treatment for Kenyans, thanks to a tie-up between Kenyatta University Teaching Research and Referral Hospital and the University of Manchester/Christie NHS Foundation Trust.  BY THE STAR
