Vehicle transporting musician Njaro's body held in Murang'a

Police in Murang'a County on Thursday evening impounded a vehicle that was transporting the body of the late Benga musician Edward Irungu Njaro.

Njaro's body was found in Masinga dam on July 17.

The body had been lying at the Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary.

Murang'a South police boss Alexander Shikondi said a report was made that the body was taken from the mortuary without authorisation.

"We immediately laid ambush and we intercepted the vehicle at Kenol," said Mr Shikondi.

The police boss further said two sides of the musician's family are fighting over the body.

"His parents want to bury him in Murang'a while his wife Ms Joyce Wanjira wants the body buried in a public cemetery," he said.

Mr Shikondi said police want to find out why the body was being transported under the cover of darkness and who authorised the irregular handling of a dead body.

This came hours after Dr Phyllis Kivisi conducted a post-mortem on the body and concluded that "the death was most likely as a result of drowning."

She estimated that Njaro died on July 14, the same date he was reported missing.     BY DAILY NATION
