14 people arrested over killing of businessman, aide and driver in Kilifi
Fourteen people have so far been arrested following a high-level operation that followed the brutal attack and execution of renowned Coastal Kenya dairy farmer Sidik Anwararali Sumra his aide Rahil Zulfikar Madani, and James Kazungu a land agent.
The three were attacked and killed on Wednesday using sharp objects in Junju area of Kilifi County while on a site visit tour to inspect a parcel of land they wanted to purchase.
The 14 are suspected to be part of a mob that descended on the three accusing them of intending to render the locals landless. They also razed down a vehicle belonging to Sumra.
Sumra left Mombasa Wednesday with the intention to purchase the piece of land to expand his dairy farming empire. Sumra and his aide who was also the driver of the car were attacked and killed when their vehicle was burnt while Kazungu, a local, was killed 500 metres when the angry mob caught up with him as he tried to escape.
In a statement to newsrooms police Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai says that preliminary investigations have revealed that the unfortunate events are as a result of incitement of locals by unnamed leaders. The police boss has promised to crack down on politicians who raised temperatures.
The 14 will be arraigned Monday, to face three counts of murder as the search for local politicians suspected to have incited the violence continues. BY CITIZEN TV
