Gunmen kill three people in Mombasa

Three people were killed on Wednesday night after a vehicle they were traveling in was sprayed by bullets.

Police said that the vehicle, a Toyota Auris, was sprayed with more than 30 bullets at Kibarani on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at around 8.30pm. The vehicle was heading towards Changamwe.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was killed at the scene while two other occupants succumbed to their injuries in hospital today.

"The three occupants of the vehicle were rushed to hospital where two of them died. We have one survivor in critical condition, we are hopeful he will recover so that he can share with us some information on the incident," said Changamwe Police Commander David Mathiu.

Mr Mathiu said the suspected thugs, who killed the three, trailed the victims in another vehicle. Police recovered several ATM cards that they said belong to the driver, his driving licence, five mobile phones and an extra car key.

"We have been able to ascertain that the vehicle belongs to the driver (James)," said Mr Mathiu.

Police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.  BY DAILY NATION
