MP Osoro and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi freed

Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro have finally been set free.

Maangi was transferred back to Kisii Police Station from Oyugis, Homabay County in a CID van before he was set free.

He had spent over 8 hours in the police hands.

Maangi was arrested Monday morning as he awaited the arrival of Deputy President William Ruto for the funeral of Simeon Nyachae.

Osoro was however arrested from the stadium as the service got underway.

He was however was set free at 11.30 at night from Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County.

Ruto joined President Uhuru Kenyatta at the burial of Gusii politician Simeon Nyachae on Monday, which was also attended by the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Osoro was lured out of the tent at Gusii Stadium by plain cloth detectives and whisked away from Gusii Stadium at 11.20 am as the funeral service for the Kisii Politician Simeon got underway.

The police have not given the cause of their arrest. 

The arrest of the Deputy Governor comes a day after a former ODM branch executive Samuel Omwando was arrested from his house in Nyanchwa.

Maangi had in an interview with the Star condemned the arrest of the former ODM operative who is currently DP William Ruto supporter.

Supporters said the government was using state machinery to muzzle supporters of the Deputy President.
