Uhuru mourns Matungu MP Justus Murunga

President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha.

The Member of Parliament died on Saturday evening while being rushed to a hospital in Mumias.

The cause of his death is still unknown but reports indicate he had breathing difficulties before collapsing in his Kakamega home.

In his message of condolence to the family, relatives, friends and residents of Matungu Constituency on Sunday, Uhuru eulogised  Murunga as a diligent and industrious servant of the people.

The president said the late MP dedicated his energy to improving the welfare of the residents of Matungu Constituency.

"In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Hon Murunga’s family, relatives and the people of Matungu Constituency. My thoughts and prayers are with you," Uhuru said.

Yesterday, other politicians sent in their condolences including Deputy President William Ruto who eulogised Murungu as a focused, hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people.

Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale said that the MP had earlier been discharged from Kisumu Aga Khan Hospital where he had been treated for diabetes.

"It is with a heavy heart that I have learned of the death of Hon Justus Makokha Murunga, the MP for Matungu in Kakamega who collapsed at his home 3 days after his discharge from Kisumu Aga Khan Hospital where he had been treated for diabetes. RIP my brother," Khalwale said.
