Tanzanian singer Haitham Kim, known for her hit song Playboy featuring 2006 Miss Tanzania – Wema Sepetu, says she is open to polyandry and plans to marry three men.
Speaking to East Africa Radio, Kim said she finds no reason to settle with one man yet there are many who drool and desire to be with her.
Kim explained that if the three were to affectionately meet her needs, fulfil her desires and augment her life, she has no qualms settling down.
“Inawezekana nikaolewa na wanaume watatu kama watanimudu vizuri, unajua wanawake tunapenda wanaume watuonyeshe upendo, mahaba na kunijali kwa hiyo wakitokea wa kufanya yote hayo nipo tayari, pia siwezi kuumia kwa mtu mmoja wakati kuna wengine wananihitaji kwa muda huo,” said Kim.
She added that she has what it takes to enable the three live a fulfilling life.
“Mimi sina shida katika kuolewa na wanaume watatu, nina uwezo wa kuwashughulikia ipasavyo, iwe ni kitandani ama popote pale, nafahamu kuwa nina kisima kikubwa cha asali ambacho wote nina imani kuwa watatosheka,” added the fast rising Bongo Flava singer and songwriter.
Whilst Kim’s assertion may be radical to some, her compatriot, rapper Chemical – real name Claudia Lubalo – in 2019 shocked many after she announced that she will walk down the aisle by herself.
Chemical, vowing not to conform to ‘traditional wedding’ norms, declared she will wed in her own terms so no one can heartbreak her.
“Mimi bado nasimama na maamuzi yangu ya kujioa mwenyewe, yaani naweza kufanya hivyo mara kumi na wala nisihitaji mtu pembeni. Mimi mwenyewe kwanza mgumu, nani wa kuumiza mtima wangu? Hakuna kabisa, nitajioa mwenyewe,” said Chemical.
An announcement that followed her 2018 deliberation on the matter where she revealed she was investing in her own happiness after years of heartache.
“Mchakato wa kujioa ushaanza. Natafuta designer sasa wa hilo vazi sijui kwa dada Wolper ntalipata. Venye ntavaa kwenye harusi yangu… Nataka nijioe, nilishaumia ‘thats why’ nataka nijioe, wasubirie waone Chemical anavyojioa na kujivisha pete,” she added.
That same year, a UK based Ugandan woman fed up of being asked when she was getting married got married to herself in a simple, traditional wedding that baffled her kin back home.
According to Lulu Jemimah, 32, the elaborate wedding that cost only Sh265, according to Mirror, was a sign of commitment to herself and her studies at the institution where she is pursuing a master’s degree.
“I have a strong passion in life and I am committed to achieving my goals at becoming an academic.
“But all my family wanted to ask me was when I planned to get married, which is very important back in Uganda, followed by when I would be having children and starting a family.
“Every birthday my mother prayed for me and in recent years this has included a plea for a good husband. But I just didn’t want to think about walking up the aisle. It’s not the thing which keeps me up at night,” Jemimah was quoted by the outlet.
