Deputy President William Ruto has said he is part of the people whose leadership he owes to the late president Daniel Moi.
“We are proud graduates of the politics of the late former president Daniel Arap Moi. He taught us that hate is a burden,” Ruto said.
Ruto said Mzee Moi built a strong political institution during his 24 years of presidency, including the national army.
“Moi built the most disciplined and professional army not only in Kenya but in the Eat Africa and Africa,” Ruto said.
The DP said Mzee Moi ensured that the country was united during his time at the moment when most of the African countries were struggling for peace.
Ruto added that Mzee Moi’s spirit of unity motivated him and President Uhuru Kenyatta to fold their parties and form the Jubilee Party in order to unite Kenyans.
He added that Mzee Moi united the entire Rift Valley and that the leaders from the region will ensure the same continues.
“We give you our commitment that this Rift Valley shall continue to be not only a valley but a peaceful valley,” Ruto added.
He also eulogised the late former president as an iconic leader and a great statesman who invested a lot in the education sector.
Ruto spoke on Wednesday during the final journey to the late former President Mzee Moi at the Kabarak University grounds.
ODM leader Raila Odinga who was also present eulogised Moi as a leader who was able to see the future.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi said the late Mzee Moi achieved a lot for the country during his presidency.
