Police in Nyandarua have made a major breakthrough in cracking a criminal gang that has been terrorising residents in Nyahururu town and Nyandarua West.
Two suspects, David Mwangi and Harrison Kihara were arrested in Kasuku Township by DCI detectives on Sunday night.
A Ceska pistol that was stolen from a police officer on November 23, last year, was recovered after the two led detectives to a makeshift house in Nyahururu town where it was hidden.
“That is the gun they have been using to terrorise us, “Nyandarua county police commander Gideon Ngumi told the Star on Monday.
Ngumi said the gun was used to commit robberies in Karai, Mairo Inya, and Gwa Kung’u in Ndaragwa and Captain in Ol Kalou.
He said the two suspects are among a group of criminals on the police watch list. The gang has been terrorising motorists along Nyahururu- Ol Kalou Road, hijacking motorists and taking valuables from them.
On several occasions, they have also raided bars and houses in Nyahururu town and stolen cash and other valuables.
Detectives from the Special Service Unit have been conducting an operation to arrest the gang.
“They acted on intelligence which led to the arrest of the two. The two will be arraigned for robbery with violence as the hunt for their accomplices goes on,” Ngumi said.
