Police in Uriri, Migori County, have launched a manhunt for a man who stabbed and killed a 17-year-old girl on Saturday night at Rapogi trading centre.
Uriri Sub County Police Commander Peter Njoroge said the Class Seven pupil Rairi Primary School in Rongo sub county, was stabbed several times in the chest and neck by the assailant who later escaped on foot.
Mr Njoroge noted that a security guard manning ‘Queens Court,’ a local pub in Rapogi informed the police that he saw a man chase the girl before stabbing her at around 11pm Saturday.
Mr Njoroge, who rushed to the scene, said efforts to resuscitate the girl were unsuccessful as she had lost a lot of blood. He said no arrests have been made.
“We have not made any arrest in connection to the incident but we will soon get to the bottom of the matter. It is just a matter of time before the suspect is arrested,” he said.
Rapogi residents have blamed the police for not conducting patrols in the area.
