“Her male friend lied to her that she should kill her kids so that she can be married to the man who comes from the same village,” police said on Monday.
The girls were in Class Five and Class One respectively at Kabolebo Primary School when they were killed.
It is alleged that the 32-year-old mother butchered the girls inside a bedroom they had been sharing with their cousins.
Cheptoo, whose home is in Kaburwa Village, Kalolebo Tinderet Sub County, was allegedly busted trying to clean up the mess, police said.
“Blood stains were discovered all over the room,” police told Chamgei FM.
The suspect reportedly abandoned her husband in Ndalat area and moved to Morosiot after committing the heinous act on July 9 this year.
However, detectives in Nandi Hills lay a trap for her through a friend who promised her a well-paying job.
When she arrived at her friend’s home, Cheptoo found officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations waiting for her.
She is currently detained at Kapsabet Police Station.
