Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Kirinyaga County on Sunday.
The two were returning to their homes from the market when they were run over by speeding vehicles.
In the first accident, Mr Martin Kariuki, 30 was crossing the road at Rwang’ondu village when he was hit by a car. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Witnesses said they saw the car, which was heading towards Nairobi from Nyeri, hit Mr Kariuki before it landed into a ditch.
“The victim suffered serious injuries and died before he could be taken to hospital,” said one of Mr Sammy Karani, a witness.
In the second accident, a cyclist died at Wachoro village when a Nairobi-bound matatu lost control and hit him.
The victim, who is yet to be identified, was returning home when he met his death. The vehicles were towed to Sagana Police Station.
Mwea West police boss Stephen Wenda said investigations into the accidents had been launched.
Thiba Ward Representative Pius Njogu appealed to the government to construct safety bumps on the Sagana-Makutano road.
