Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has urged Members of the County Assembly to reject Third Way Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Bill.
Speaking in Rangwe during a burial on Saturday, Kaluma told the MCAs to await a report from the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team.
The legislator and his Kabondo Kasipul counterpart Dr. Eve Obara argued that the Bill will lead to reduction in the number of representation as well as constituencies in the country.
According to Kaluma, Homa Bay County which has eight constituencies may be reduced to only two if the Bill is approved in a referendum.
The two legislators urged Kenyans to wait for directions from President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Kaluma also dismissed leaders opposed to the BBI telling them to stop criticizing the initiative as they “declined to give their views during the time the team was moving across the country to collect public views before submitting their report.”
