Harambee Stars defenseman David “Cheche” Ochieng left the country this afternoon to visit Saudi Arabia where he is expected to join Al Ansar’s second-tier group for a one-year contract.
Cheche, who was a free agent after the expiry of his short-term contract with the Kenyan Premier League (AFK) club AFC Leopards, expired at the end of the 2018/19 season. as a professional footballer.
“I have a previous contract with Al Ansar and we have agreed on the terms and all the rest. I had to join the team in Egypt for the pre-season but my visa was delayed. I will have my medical exam on Wednesday and if all goes well, I will be officially announced later, “Cheche told Nation Sport.
“I am delighted to return to Saudi Arabia. I used to be with the Al-Taawoun club so I have no trouble getting settled. I know and understand the language and how to drive. I also know the expectations of the team and what I must do to be successful at this level. In my first season with Al Taawoun, I was named best defender. My main goal is to do my best with Al Ansar and return to the Saudi Professional League by next season. “
Cheche joined AFC Leopards in March for a short-term contract after mutually terminating his contract with Swedish second-division club IF Brommapojkarna. He has also worked in the United States with Cosmos in New York and he relies heavily on this experience to join Al Ansar.
“I have gained valuable experience with the different teams I have played since I left Saudi Arabia so I came back as the best player. I am prepared and looking forward to this exciting new phase of my career, “he suggested.
