Class Six pupil drowns during school swimming lesson

A family in Lanet, Nakuru County is mourning their son after who drowned in a school swimming pool.
Samuel Munge, 13, a Standard Six pupil at Roots Academy in Nakuru town drowned on Wednesday while swimming in the pool.
Munge was just a week old in the school when he met his untimely death.
According to the school’s headteacher Collins Odhiambo, the class was having a swimming lesson at around 2pm when Munge, who was not a good swimmer, drowned.
“I was alerted of the incident by the swimming teacher and I immediately rushed Munge to Fountain Medical Centre but he died while undergoing treatment,” said the headteacher.
CALL FROM HOSPITAL
His father, James Mururia, said that he received a call from the hospital and when he went there he found his lastborn child already dead.
“I had just transferred him to Roots Academy a week ago with hopes that he will improve in Mathematics. It is unfortunate that he died so soon,” said the distraught father.
The family that hails from Ndege Ndimu estate in Nakuru County is yet to come to terms with the loss of their son.
“He was a young and promising child whose presence lit the room,” said his father.
The body was taken to PN Ngari Funeral Home as the family embarks on burial arrangements.
