A 21-year-old man has been electrocuted in Kisumu after climbing a high voltage power line.
Relatives suspect that John Sande was intoxicated when he met his death Wednesday night.
Mr Sande’s lifeless body was discovered on Thursday morning dangling from the power lines.
His uncle, George Omboya, said the man was last seen Wednesday evening.
“I saw him yesterday in the evening. He was fine. He didn’t show any signs of distress all,” said Mr Omboya.
Mr Sande’s intention for climbing up the power pole could not be established immediately.
STUNTS
His uncle said that Sande was not new to such stunts.
“He has been involved in such incidents before, including climbing power poles and flag masts at the AP camp,” he said.
Residents now want religious leaders to conduct special prayers in the area following what they describe as an alarming increase of similar incidents.
It took Kenya Power personnel more than 30 minutes to remove the body from the power lines.
Maseno OCPD Meshack Kiptum said police have launched investigation into the incident.
“We are treating the incident as suicide. Had the deceased been found hanging on a transformer it would have been a different case altogether. People should seek other avenues to relieve stress,” said Mr Kiptum.
The body was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
