One person died and four others were hospitalised after drinking alcohol suspected to be laced with a poisonous substance during a party on Sunday night in Elburgon, Nakuru County.
Molo police boss Kioko Muinde said the five victims, who are labourers at a construction site, were among revellers at a party hosted by their boss at a local bar.
Mr Muinde said the victims fell unconscious and were taken to hospital where one of the them was pronounced dead.
A nurse at Elburgon Hospital told the Nation that the rest are in a stable condition.
Relatives said the victims complained of stomach pains and vomited.
The body of the 33-year-old man was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Mr Muinde said police have opened investigation into the incident.
In the recent past, there has been reports of a return of illicit liquor trade in the area.
Last week, three people died after engaging in drinking sprees in the region.
