Hundreds of commuters in Kwale County under the banner of Citizens Against Matatu Exploitation have protested the raising of fares by matatu operators.
Led by their spokesman Mohamed Renny Mackenzie, they accused operators of taking advantage of the re-introduction of Michuki Rules to fleece passengers.
Speaking while flagging off a walk from Kombani to Ukunda to demonstrate against the exploitation, Mr Mackenzie said since the launch of the crackdown, the number of matatus have reduced while the few that are operating have increased fares.
“This walk is meant to demand that matatu operators plying all routes in the county be compelled to have uniform fares,” he said.
