Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday visited ailing freedom fighter and multiparty democracy crusader Nginyo Kariuki who has been ailing at his Redhill home in Limuru constituency, Kiambu County.
Mr. Odinga described Mr. Nginyo as a brave, clever and outstanding politician, who helped the country to achieve democracy.
“Nginyo is an old friend. He was a friend of the late Jaramogi, and has been a fighter for the betterment of this country’s democracy” he said.
The opposition chief was accompanied by senators James Orengo (Siaya), George Khaniri (Vihiga) and Ledama Ole Kina (Narok).

Orengo revealed that multi-party democracy crusaders used to hold meetings at Kariuki’s home, where they would privately discuss many issues.
“He has been part of us and we felt it important to accompany our leader to visit him and wish him well and to recover quickly,” the senator said.
Mr. Nginyo urged political leaders to embrace the call for unity, saying this would promote harmony and development in the country.
The former politician, who vied for the Kiambu senate seat in 2013, thanked Odinga for shaking hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying the benefit was felt by the public.
