World junior 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet will Sunday battle it out with her seniors when she lines up for this years’ Lotto Foundation Baringo road race.
The event will feature 10km open elite and amateur, 6km and 4km cross country for junior athletes.
Beatrice – who has been training in Londiani, Kericho County – will be joined by her mentor Sandrafelis Chebet in the 10km race as they both eye victory.
According to Beatrice, she will be using the race as part of preparations for the National Cross Country series set to start on November 17 in Machakos.
“I’m using this race to prepare for the Cross Country series. I am eyeing a place in the Kenyan team for the World Cross Country Championships,” said the youngster.
Fresh form winning Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Cross Country, Sandrafelis will be looking forward to replicate her exploits in the 21km race last year and win the 10km race.
“I know there will be stiff competition, I have done my preparations well and I will be in the podium,” she told Nation Sport.
Isaac Kipkoech will feature in the men’s category as he seeks to win the race for the second year running.
Winners in both categories in 10km will pocket Sh100,000 with the top 10 athletes also being rewarded.
Meanwhile, top athletes will Saturday line up for Chebara Half Marathon dubbed ‘Chebara Dam Conservation Run’ in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The 21km will start at Kaptomut Primary School and conclude at Cheptongei shopping centre.
With the winner pocketing Sh50,000, North Rift Athletics Kenya Public Relations Officer Boniface Tiren said they are expecting a large turnout especially from Iten where many athletes reside.
“We have registered a number of athletes and we are expecting stiff competition from the top cream because this county is famous for athletics,” said Tiren.
“We will be rewarding top ten finishers in all races so athletes will be out to make it to the top. They will also be using the race to gauge their preparedness for the upcoming season,” he added.
The race will also feature 6km and 8km junior women and men cross country, with focus on students. Seniors will be competing in 10km for both men and women category.
