National Youth Service (NYS) staff who are under investigation over Sh9 billion scandal have been sent on compulsory leave.
“I hereby direct that all officers at NYS in Procurement, Finance and Accounting who are under investigations to proceed on compulsory leave effective immediately to allow investigators to complete their work,” said the statement released by the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia.
The move by Prof Kobia comes just two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta accepted PS Lillian Omollo and NYS Director-General Richard Ndubai’s decision to step aside for three months to allow probe over the alleged loss of billions.
Both Ms Omollo and Mr Ndubai are among other 40 people summoned by the police for grilling over the loss of billions at NYS.
The two, according Director of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti, are expected to record statements on Monday at the DCI headquarters.
The CS appeared before the National Assembly’s Labour and Social Services Committee this week where she urged the MPs to give the investigative agencies time to do their work.
“I have also seen several figures on the media on the amount of money lost which does not bring a good picture to the ministry. However, I am still waiting for a report from the investigative agencies to know the exact figure,” she said.
