News

Waziri Benson Masubo ChachaMr Waziri Benson Masubo Chacha, the man accused of conspiring to defraud MPs and the public, will stay in police custody for seven more days, a Nairobi court ruled on Thursday.

The extension of Mr Chacha’s detention has been occasioned by delays in his probation report.
Chief Magistrate Roseline Oganyo on Thursday allowed an application by Probation Officer Jenevive Akinyi to be given more time to file the report.
INTERVIEW VICTIMS
Ms Akinyi said she had only interviewed Mr Chacha and was still waiting for another report from their Kehancha office.
The officer said she needed to interview the victims, including Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege and former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.
PRE-BAIL REPORT
Defence lawyer Job Ngeresa, who had opposed the application by Ms Akinyi, was overruled by the magistrate.
A pre-bail report, the magistrate said, must be produced before she determines Mr Chacha’s bail application.
She directed the case to be mentioned on April 25.
