Malindi Airport expansion residents to be compensated
The first phase of compensating residents affected by the expansion of Malindi Airport will be completed by December this year.
The Kenya Airports Authority has so far paid out 300 million shillings out of the total 420 million shillings to the first group.
The expansion project is aimed at elevating the Malindi Airport to international standards.
The governments’ plan to upgrade the Malindi Airport to international standards is well on course with the first phase of compensating residents which will cost 420 million shillings set to be completed in two months’ time.
The Kenya Airports Authority has paid out 300 million shillings to the first group at Kwa Chocha South.
The Kenya Airports Authority has completed mapping out the area earmarked for the expansion of the Malindi Airport Runway from the current 1.4 kilometres to 2.5 kilometres which falls in the second phase of the airport expansion.
Tourism stakeholders have lauded the move terming it as a boost to the sector.
The authority is engaging the Lands ministry on the acquisition of 139 hectares of land required for the second phase.
