Conservation icon Kuki gets global award
Renowned conservationist Kuki Gallmann has been awarded this year’s prestigious international Gambrinus Prize in Italy.
Ms Gallmann, the author of I Dreamed of Africa and environmental activist, was awarded in a ceremony during the 35th edition of the Gambrinus “Giuseppe Mazzotti” Prize.
Design Diffusion, an Italian magazine, last week reported that the board of directors with the unanimous opinion of the Gambrinus jury Giuseppe Mazzotti, awarded Ms Gallmann, 73, for her tireless and courageous commitment to the protection of the environment and of Ol Ari Nyiro Laikipia Nature Conservancy.
She was also awarded for the multiple initiatives and activities that she has promoted through her Gallmann Memorial Foundation to preserve the extraordinary flair of African land.
The foundation is in remembrance of her husband Paolo Gallmann and son Emanuele.
In her acceptance speech, she said: “I am deeply moved and honoured to receive from my native Italy, this prestigious recognition for my dedication to Kenya’s environment.”
