Nairobi police commander Japhet Koome has said there will be increased security during the Standard Chartered Marathon on Sunday.
“We have laid strategies on how to secure that event. We are going to have both ground and air coverage,” he said on Saturday.
Mr Koome added that a number of roads will be closed to guarantee the safety of the participants, urging residents to be patient.
From General Motors on Mombasa Road, vehicles will be diverted to join Enterprise Road while others will use the Southern Bypass that runs from Kikuyu to Mombasa Road, through Ngong Road and Lang’ata Road.
Lower Hill Road, Lang’ata Road all the way to Nairobi West roundabout, will also be closed.
University Way, City Hall Way and Taifa Road will also be affected.
“Those coming from Ngong Road when they get to City Mortuary roundabout, they will be diverted at that point. They will not proceed to access CBD through Valley Road.
“They will join Argwings Kodhek Road, come down to Jakaya Kikwete Road, Nyerere Road, then proceed to Westlands,” he said.
