Raila snubs Uhuru contempt case, Mwilu to pick judges for hearing

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is yet to respond to Jubilee’s application seeking to hold him in contempt of the Supreme Court for withdrawing from Thursday’s repeat presidential election.
Raila and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka were not present as parties appeared before Judiciary Deputy Registrar Daniel ole Keiwua on Friday.
IEBC and chair Wafula Chebukati filed replies saying they were preparing for the repeat polls.
Ole Keiuwa said the file will be placed before Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu to constitute a bench to hear the case.
Jubilee sued Raila and accused the Opposition of sabotaging the repeat election.
Secretary general Raphael Tuju said despite the Supreme Court ordering fresh elections, NASA principals’ actions “display arrogance and lack of respect to the law”.
Raila called on NASA supporters to boycott the repeat election and a majority heeded this call.
In Nyanza, Machakos and some parts of Western, deadly anti-election protests took place.
IEBC is expected to hold repeat elections in Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya on Saturday but residents have said they will not participate in the exercise.
