24-year-old man dies while swimming in Parklands

A 24-year-old man drowned as he swam with his friends at a swimming pool in Nairobi.

Cyrus Kioko Muia was enjoying the Monday, December 19, afternoon swimming session at Park Road Primary pool when he suddenly became unresponsive.

Officials said Muia knew how to swim but they do not know how and why he drowned.

He was rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital for medical attention where officials declared him dead.

His parents were later called to the hospital and informed of the incident.

Police said they are investigating the incident with the motive of taking action if needed.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they want to understand how the man died.

“We will wait for an autopsy to tell us what and why it happened on him as part of the probe,” he said.

He added police had talked to some of those who were with the deceased and the management of the pool as part of the probe.

In Muranga, a 22-year-old man drowned at a local river on Sunday.

Police said the incident happened in Gitumbi village when Julius Wafula went to fetch water from Muranga River.

Wafula failed to go back to their house late in the evening prompting a search in the area when locals spotted a jerrycan he had on the riverbanks.

The body was found in the river a few meters away from where he had drowned.

Police were called and moved the body to the mortuary as investigations into the same go on.

Elsewhere, a woman was electrocuted in Amakara village, Nyamira County.

Police Gladys Mokeira was electrocuted after touching a naked live wire.

Officials from Kenya Power and police visited the scene and blamed an illegal power connection for the incident.

The body was moved to the mortuary as investigations into the same go on.

Cases of illegal power connections are rampant and have been blamed on most electrocutions.
